Meeting English guide
How to give a clear project update in English.
A project update helps a group decide what to do next. Lead with the status and consequence; include detail only when it changes a decision.
A decision-ready structure
- Headline: on track, at risk, or blocked—and why it matters.
- Evidence: the most relevant change since the last update.
- Risk: what could change the outcome.
- Action: owner and date for the next step.
- Decision: the specific input needed from the room.
Example update
The launch is still on track for 18 August, but partner approval is now the critical risk. Engineering completed the final build yesterday. Mina owns the approval follow-up and will confirm by Thursday. If approval slips past Thursday, we need a decision on launching without the partner listing.
Common mistakes
- Retelling all completed work before stating the status.
- Naming a blocker without an owner or next checkpoint.
- Mixing confirmed facts with assumptions.
- Asking for vague feedback instead of a concrete decision.
