Accent feedback methodology
Aim for intelligibility, not accent erasure.
DemoTime treats an accent as part of a speaker's identity. Feedback focuses on whether listeners can follow the message in a specific context, not whether the speaker imitates one prestige accent.
What feedback may consider
- Sounds or word boundaries that change the listener's likely interpretation.
- Word stress and sentence stress that help the main contrast stand out.
- Pace, pausing, linking, and rhythm when they affect comprehension.
- Repair strategies such as rephrasing, spelling a name, or checking understanding.
What feedback should avoid
- Treating a regional or national accent as an error by itself.
- Claiming that one accent is more professional, intelligent, or credible.
- Pushing cosmetic imitation when the message is already easy to understand.
Known limits
Speech recognition and generated feedback can be less reliable for some accents, audio conditions, names, and specialist terms. Users should correct the transcript context where possible and treat uncertain feedback as a prompt to test with human listeners.
